Bring Your Class to the River

Through the Shane Hulsey CLEAN (Conservation Leadership through Educational Activities in Nature) Environmental Education Program, Cahaba River Coalition introduces students to the science of healthy rivers and the importance of protecting them. These hands-on experiences build knowledge, curiosity, and help develop the next generation of environmental stewards.

Choose Your Adventure

CLEAN offers students a variety of experiences that build skills, confidence, and a deeper understanding of the natural world.

Stream walks are the best hands-on, feet-in-the-water educational experience for students from 3rd grade and up.

Your class will learn about the health and biodiversity of the Cahaba River ecosystem, and the factors that affect the river’s vitality. Then students will have an opportunity to wade in the river and experience that teaching, hands-on.

Experience the Cahaba from a canoe while learning about its unique features.

We provide canoes, paddles, life jackets, and safety expertise for your group of up to 22 participants. Available for students from 6th grade and up. All participants must be at least 12 years old.

We can bring CLEAN educational programming to your classroom when weather or circumstances make visiting the river difficult.

What’s the cost?

Hands-on experiences at the Cahaba River start at $15 per participant. Classroom CLEAN presentations have no direct cost.

Full and partial scholarships are available to ensure all students and schools can access the river.

Safety is our First Priority

Our CLEAN Manager holds current First Aid and CPR certifications and is an ACA Certified Canoe Instructor. While scrapes or bruises typical of childhood play occasionally occur, our team follows strict safety protocols to prevent serious incidents.

This program is dedicated to Shane Hulsey.
