Swim Guide

The Cahaba River is one of central Alabama’s most popular places to swim, paddle, and explore. To help people enjoy the river safely, Cahaba River Coalition monitors water quality throughout the peak recreation season.

Each week, we collect water samples from locations across the watershed and test them in our lab for contaminants that can affect human health.

Using Swim Guide

Water quality surveys are collected every Thursday from May through September. The results are available below in an interactive map and a spreadsheet.

Interactive Map

Green indicates low E. coli in the most recent sample taken at this location. Yellow indicates moderately high E. coli. Red indicates high E. coli. No current data is available for grey locations.

You Make This Possible

Swim Guide sampling and reporting is funded by our members. Join Cahaba River Coalition to ensure continued access to information that enables everyone in the watershed to make informed decisions about when and where it is safe to swim.
